The Shindig, formerly known as the Clayton Shindig, is a single-day show on downtown Clayton's Town Square, a park that also hosts a monthly music series from May through September and other events. The event has changed repeatedly as it has grown.
In 2019, music from eight bands was presented on a single stage.
Previously, there has been two side-by-side stages.
Tan and Sober Gentlemen, who closed the 2019 festival, played the side stage in 2017.
In 2017, the festival changed to a free admission format and with a fee for access to a VIP tent and beer tastings.
The VIP tent also has raised decks on either side for a better view of the stage.
As of 2018, the Shindig is held in conjunction with Clayton's Harvest Festival, which includes carnival rides, a classic car show, a small stage with local musical acts and vendor booths that stretch for about five blocks through downtown. The Shindig was set off with a small gateway in 2019, which marked where alcohol was allowed - in the music festival, but not the town's street festival.
The Shindig also has vendors and food trucks stationed around the perimeter of the park and on adjacent streets.
The day also includes activities like a wing-eating competition and a beard contest.
